Serkis essentially robs Gollum of his depth and complexity and reduces him to a silly voice, a gimmick. He fundamentally misinterprets the character and basically infantilises him and, in some sense, makes him a comedic character. I should also add, his Gollum - which is clearly the only reason why he is doing this (and The Hobbit) audiobook - is actually, I think, absurdly overrated. ![]() His rendition of the various songs throughout the book are also frankly embarrassingly bad - no musical ability whatsoever, which ruins sadly them.
